House Committee Announces Critical Mineral Supply Policy Group

Legislators will develop measures to transition the U.S. away from reliance on Chinese minerals.

The members of the House Select Committee on China recently announced a new work group that will develop legislative proposals to lower U.S. reliance on Chinese critical minerals.

Critical minerals are used in the production of various technologies, such as semiconductors and wind turbines. Representative John Moolenaar of Michigan, the committee chair, and Raja Krishnamoorthi, the ranking members, said that this working group will focus on creating legal incentives for U.S. manufacturers to rely less on critical minerals from China, such as tax benefits and regulatory reforms.

“Critical minerals are the building blocks of everything from basic consumer goods to advanced military technology,” Congressman Moolenaar stated. “America’s reliance on the Chinese Communist Party’s control of the critical mineral supply chain would quickly become an existential vulnerability in the event of a conflict.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chair Moolenaar and members of the select committee as they seek to support the U.S. production of critical minerals.
  • For U.S. legislators to be discerning as they attempt to reduce America’s reliance on supplies from China.
